A Day which celebrates the skill of authors and illustrators and the importance of the written word should also be used as a springboard to encourage would be writers, according to one of the UK’s largest digital print companies.
March 6 is World Book Day, when much loved stories and books are highlighted globally and where young people go to school dressed as their favourite fictional characters.
But now WTTB – which has its own Book Super Centre – believes that the day should also be used to encourage would be writers to take the plunge.
WTTB offers a range of book options, including printing novels in a range of hardback or paperback styles and finishes, allowing people to self-publish books.
Louise Stephenson, Managing Director of WTTB, said that more and more people were realising the value of producing their own book, without the need for an agent or a mainstream publisher.
“World Book Day turns the attention on the skill of well-known writers and creators, but there are probably hundreds more out there who haven’t had a break or simply don’t know how to go about bringing their story to life,” she said.
“Now it’s easier than ever to do that by self-publishing, with some authors having a huge amount of success in going down that route.
“We hope that World Book Day will give anyone thinking that they have a story to tell the courage to put pen to paper and get publishing.”
Louise added that the Book Super Centre is not just for anyone looking to create the next best seller.
“Anyone who wants to create a family history or memoir, or who wants to share their favourite images in a stylish way can do all of that and much more,” she said.
“We have so many exciting options that make publishing a book simpler than it has ever been.”
